From the Wall Street Journal:
“Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution is pretty simple,” he told a group of Marines at a base in South Korea. “It says, ‘Raise an army.’ It says absolutely nothing about race, color, creed, sexual orientation.
“You all joined for a reason: to serve,” he continued. “To protect our nation, right?”
“Yes, sergeant major,” Marines replied.
“How dare we, then, exclude a group of people who want to do the same thing you do right now, something that is honorable and noble?” Sgt. Maj. Barrett continued, raising his voice just a notch. “Right?”
Sgt. Maj. Barrett then described conversations with U.K. troops, who saw a similar ban lifted a decade ago, with little disruption. And to drive the point home, he produced a pocket copy of the Constitution.
“Get over it,” he said. “We’re magnificent, we’re going to continue to be. … Let’s just move on, treat everybody with firmness, fairness, dignity, compassion and respect. Let’s be Marines.”
Well I think that about sums up the attitude the military needs to embrace in order to successfully do away with DADT, don't you?
I have to say that reading that caused me to get a little lump in my throat.

Sarah Palin ignored Jeremy Morlock's plea to be brought home from overseas under a "compassionate reassignment." Update!
Here is the e-mail that Morlock sent to his Governor, and family friend, on August 23, 2007:
Web mail from: Mr. Jeremy Morlock
address: 2 bn 1st inf reg bct Ft. Lewis WA 98433

MESSAGE:
Mrs. Sarah Palin rnrnSarah I wish I knew of a better way of getting in contact with you and I know your busy having a whole state to run but, I was writing because I had a question to ask. I guess I'll start off by letting you know where im at with things, being in the Army as an lower enslisted man its hard to get things done, I've been looking in to a regulation we have called a 'compassionate reassignment (AR 614-100).' It stipulates under certian circumstances a soldier can request to move duty stations to help care for family in need . I know you have known my family for some time and I think of you all as friends and you know my mother is now taking care of all the girls by herself while trying to keep a job. I'm not asking for pity for my family or myself, I'm just asking if there is anything you could do to help me with my process of getting home to Alaska to help. My direct chain of comand (team, squad leader) have been trying there best to help with out causeing! problems for them selves but, the fact is that my Unit is not really supporting me and trying to coax me to stay. I appreciate your time in reading this and any help you can offer.rnrn sincerely,rnPFC Morlock, Jeremyrn2/1 INF 5 SBCT

This was the response Track's good friend, and son of Todd's schoolmate received from the Governor's office.

Thank you for writing to Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The concerns, opinions, and/or information you have sent are important and valuable to the Governor. Although she is unable to respond to each and every email herself, your message has been received and is being reviewed by the appropriate staff person in this office who can best address your need, suggestion, or comment.
We all know what happened to Jeremy Morlock after that brush off from Palin's office.
Just imagine how his life might have been changed if only the mother of his sister's best friends would have taken the time to listen to his plea. And you know she really could have helped him, after all she had little trouble keeping her son Track out of harm's way during HIS time in the military.
Update: Nobody is making excuses for what Jeremy Morlock did, he has to take responsibility for his own actions. But this young man entered the military to impress his father who then died in a boating accident in July of 2007. A month later, while still grieving that loss, and after hearing from his mother how difficult things were for the family, he reached out to his best friend's mother, who happened to be the Governor of his state, and asked for help getting back home to help them.
And for those efforts he did not even receive a personal response from the woman who he believed was a personal friend to his family
Somebody suggested that the Morlocks and Palins are still friends, but that is not true. Yes the girls are still friends with Bristol and Willow, but the mother has absolutely no use for Sarah and Todd.
After all it was THEIR house that Willow broke into back in December 2009, and after the Palins refused to pay for the damages, and then arranged for their daughter and her friends to get off while throwing the rest of the kids to the wolves, that pretty much severed any ties between the parents.
In fact Jeremy's mother, Audrey Morlock, has been doing every thing she can to hold her family together with absolutely NO help from her "friends" the Palins.
NOW do you understand how disgusting it was that Palin did nothing to respond to this young man's pleas for help?

Sarah Palin's appearance at the Rolling Thunder event was just as disruptive and disrespectful as was predicted. Updated!
Courtesy of Talking Points Memo:
"I'm very not appreciative of the way she came in here," Ted Shpak, Rolling Thunder's national legislative director, told Rachel Weiner of the Washington Post. "If she wanted to come on the ride, she should have come in the back." (Palin, instead, came in the front of the Pentagon's north parking lot, where event staff and press had gathered.)
Palin, along with her husband Todd and daughters Bristol and Piper, proceeded into D.C. on bikes from the Pentagon parking lot to the Vietnam Memorial and later to the National Mall. Palin reportedly planned to visit the National Archive to view the Constitution later in the day.
This was supposed to be a solemn event to honor our missing service and fallen warrirs, and instead Palin turned into a three ring circus.
Shameful.
Update: Oh my God! Why in the hell did she need to write on her hand to ride a freaking motorcycle?

Reason #60 not to vote for Sarah Palin for anything
She lied about Track's military service.
MyBloggityblog.com
Update* Thanks to a dilligent reader we now can confirm that Sarah Palin didn’t raise a combat vet. According to Track Palin’s own DD214 he never received a Combat Infantrymans Badge or any badge earned for service in combat. So she effectivly raised a Guardsman who sat in the rear with his gear *End Update*
Sarah Palin yet again ceases to surprise me when it comes to riding on the success of others. This time while at Glen Beck’s “Restoring the Honor” gathering in Washington D.C. she decided to use her son’s bravery to cover over her lack of political experience. Sarah Palin the woman who has never hunted but lied about it, quit her job as Governor, engages in media brawls with Levi Johnston and can’t name political policies has raised a combat vet. Yes ladies and gentleman that is her only accomplishment in life.
While at the rally Palin said “say whatcha want about me but I raised a combat vet and you can’t take that away from me”. She also said “I am not here to speak as a politician but as a mother of a soldier” although I don’t know how she could speak as a politician because she quit that long ago. Her son Track Palin is a member of the Alaska National Guard and deployed with the 25th Infantry Division 1st Stryker Brigade to Iraq in 2008.
What irritates me is that Sarah is acting like she accomplished something monumental by raising a child who decided to join the Guard. Saying “I raised a combat vet” is like saying “I raised a cancer survivor” it has nothing to do with you however you try to take credit for it. I’m not sure how her saying that gets her any standing with the “tea party” who is filled with old conservative soldiers who actually fought for this country. I didn’t think I could be more disgusted with her but yet again I was wrong; who is she to try and gain an edge by riding off her son’s coattails. Is she really that desperate?
So Sarah Palin raised a weekend warrior who deployed to Iraq, a daughter who has unprotected sex and I won’t even touch on the exploitation of her mentally handicapped child. She, in my opinion, abuses the status of being a mother to try and further advance her lackluster political career and it is disgusting to watch. I successfully raised a house cat and taught it to poop in a box but you don’t see me bragging about it. It does go to show you that the Tea Party is full of people who can’t think for themselves and follow the words of the even more ignorant like sheep. This convention that Beck put on was supposedly to “restore Americas honor” but the only way that is possible is if the Tea Party falls on its sword.
You know I really feel sorry for Track, his mother lying about his military service. That is not supporting the troops. No wonder Track stays out of the spotlight.

The NEW Military

Lance Corporal Nicola Humphreys, 24, has been charged with “disgraceful conduct of an indecent kind”.
Also charged is Sergeant Major Alan Robinson, 35 – who is now her husband.
It is not the first time she has been in hot water for saucy antics. The Sun revealed last year how “Red Baps” girl Nicola had been snapped cavorting naked – except for her peaked cap and red stilettos – with comrades during a drunken mess night at the base in Sennelager, Germany.
An Army source said: “The charges are very bad news to Nikki and Alan, as they are both very ambitious.
